“Fit Fridays” is meant to inspire people to stay fit on the weekend. A lot of people use the weekend as an excuse to be unhealthy. But why? Don’t you want to feel your best on the only 2 days you don’t have to work?!
Here are a few suggestions on how to kick-start your weekend on a healthy note.
1) Friday Morning Meditation
Try and wake up a few minutes earlier then usual, make your bed. After all “the state of your bed is the state of your head”. Then sit on it, legs crossed, back straight, hands on your knees. Clear your head by focusing on your breath. Think of a mantra that will help you stay positive and energized this weekend. My mantra this week, as you saw on Monday’s post was “today is going to be a great day” so how about “this is going to be a great weekend!” Remain this way for at least 5 minutes. If your mind wanders that’s ok, clearing your mind for meditation takes a lot of practice. And just the attempt is beneficial to creating a relaxed space in your head.
2) Just do it!
I know it’s cheesy, but I think of this Nike slogan a lot. When it comes to working out especially but even when it comes to cleaning my house or whatever other annoying task it is I need to accomplish.
Put on your sneakers and get moving, go for a walk, jog, run… whatever. You don’t have to go 5 miles, just get out and get moving. A little cardio goes a long way to helping you wake up, focus and feel great for the rest of the day. When I workout in the morning I’m able to get so much more accomplished in my day, whether it’s running errands, doing laundry or taking my kids to the zoo. I’m much more energized and the best part is that I feel good doing it.
3) Eat a Healthy Breakfast
Eggs, whole wheat toast, fruits and vegetables are a good choice. Start off on the right note nutritionally and you are more apt to eat well throughout the day. Eating healthy in the morning will also help you to be more energetic, mindful and happy.
4) Stay the course.
Last but not least, try to stay mindful this weekend about the decisions you make. If you go to a barbecue look for healthy food options. Another good idea is eating a healthy snack before you go, this can help to curb your appetite so you will be less apt to binge on unhealthy food.
Be careful of your alcohol consumption. Alcohol is packed with calories and once you start drinking your decision-making skills will not be beneficial to your health. Another reason to watch your alcohol intake is that hangovers cause unhealthy cravings. You are more likely to eat greasy food high in fat and calories.
